vGIS Lab: Why pipes appear to “float” in augmented reality

Working with new users and presenting at conferences we receive tsunamis of questions. “Why do pipes float?” easily makes it into the Top 10 of most frequently asked ones.
Although the answer is simple – 3D perspective and the parallax effect – it is not an easiest concept to explain without props or visuals. So, we put together a short video below to describe the illusion.
